Human strength is insufficient to accomplish the work of God. Anyone who attempts to do God’s work by his or her strength will end up being frustrated. says:
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
When the Holy Spirit is with a fellow, difficult things become easy. In , God told Jeremiah that He had ordained him as a prophet even before he was born. However, Jeremiah thought he could carry out divine assignments by his own strength, so he said, “Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.” The Lord then rebuked him and told him, “Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.” Beloved, when the Lord gives you an assignment, rest assured that He will empower you with the strength and resources you need to carry it out. All you have to do is to trust Him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding ().
In the Bible reading for today, the Holy Spirit came upon Samson, and he single-handedly slew one thousand men with the jawbone of an ass. However, later on in , the same Samson was captured by the Philistines, had his eyes gouged out, and was bound with iron fetters because the Holy Spirit had departed from him. I pray that the Holy Spirit will not depart from your life, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s memory verse says that when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power. The power of the Holy Spirit in you will then enable you to take the gospel of Christ even to the uttermost parts of the earth. You also need to rely on the Holy Spirit for strength, especially in the place of prayer. says, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” I pray that the Holy Spirit will strengthen and empower you to do great exploits for the kingdom of God, in Jesus’ name.
