Message

When I became the General Overseer of RCCG, many people saw me as an upstart and decided to make things difficult for me. I joined the church in 1973 and suddenly found myself leading people who had been in the church since its establishment in 1952. Many people were not comfortable with me being their leader, and they were determined to see me fail. They thought I used my academic degrees to manipulate the founder of the church to make me his successor. Every council meeting we held then was hellish because they criticised every single thing I did. In one of those meetings, I was struggling to explain myself, but God told me not to say anything until I heard from Him. One day, during one of our usual ‘rough’ council meetings, the Lord said to me, “Tell them that every idle word that a man shall speak, he will give account of it.” I obeyed God, and that day marked the last time I had a rough time during council meetings. Beloved, may you hear from God today and receive clear instructions on what to do at every point in your life, in Jesus’ name.

God’s word is a guide. It shows us not only what to do but how to do it. In , the Bible tells us of how Peter toiled all night, and afterwards, the Lord’s word came to him, and he was told exactly what to do to catch a multitude of fish. Jesus said to him, “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” When Peter obeyed this instruction, he caught so many fishes that his net broke. Beloved, God knows where your breakthrough is. He knows where you need to throw your net and what you need to do to move to the next level. The guidance you need is in His word.

Many Christians do not understand certain things because they have not truly encountered God’s word. In today’s Bible reading, when God instructed Abraham to sacrifice the son he had waited decades for, he obeyed. He knew that he wasn’t the one who created the boy and that God, who gave Isaac to him, could raise him from the dead.

Beloved, if you want to continue enjoying the guidance that God’s word provides, you must never place anything above Him, not even things you received through His instructions. People who do not trade God for anything will always enjoy His guidance.

Key Point

God’s guidance will always be readily available to those who do not replace Him with His gifts.

Hymn

Title: ROCK OF AGES CLEFT FOR ME

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee;
let the water and the blood,
from thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure;
save from wrath and make me pure.

2. Not the labours of my hands
can fulfil thy law's demands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
thou must save, and thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring,
simply to the cross I cling;
naked, come to thee for dress;
helpless, look to thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly;
wash me, saviour, or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath,
when mine eyes shall close in death,
when I soar to worlds unknown,
see thee on thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee.
