When the devil attacks the child of someone who is doing the Lord’s work, it is because he has discovered that he cannot stop the fellow from doing the work of God, so he tries all he can to prevent the next generation from continuing that work.
In , I believe the devil recognised that the great woman of Shunem was someone with a large heart. He also saw that she was someone who had the willingness to spend for God, so he planned to make her childless. However, because of her generosity towards Elisha, God’s prophet, the devil’s plan for her life was thwarted, and she gave birth to a son. Despite that, the devil did not stop his schemes over her life; he tried to cut the child’s life short. I believe he took the life of the child because he just couldn’t bear to see the good works of his mother continue. God, however, proved Himself mighty; He used the same prophet Elisha to raise the boy from the dead.
As a believer, the devil begins to fear whenever your offspring starts to do the things that you are doing for God, and even more. Unfortunately, many believers don’t even train their children to join them in the Lord’s work, let alone continue it when they are gone. Samuel was someone whom God began using from a very young age. He was dedicated to God by his parents as a young child (), and he grew up to be a prophet and a mighty vessel for the Lord (). However, the devil saw that he had such a special place in God’s heart and was used mightily by Him. He didn’t want the great works Samuel did for the Lord to be passed on to generations, so he decided to corrupt his children and made them deviate from the ways of the Lord ().
Beloved, do you have zeal for the Lord’s work, and will your children emulate you? Will they continue in your footsteps and do even greater works for God after you are gone? If you want to preserve your generations, especially in the will of God, you must ensure that your children encounter Jesus. You must invite Jesus into your home so that He can have an encounter with your children. You may not know it, but your children’s personal encounter with God will have a huge impact on their lives.
