I am a living testimony that the word of God produces faith. However, just as faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (), fear also comes by hearing. This is why some believers in the olden days avoided watching television, because television stations always seemed to have bad news or something negative to broadcast, and they didn’t want anything to sow fear or other negative seeds in their minds. The Bible says in that you should guard your heart with all diligence. Therefore, you must be careful about what you allow into your heart, as not everything edifies or produces faith.
Beloved, one of the reasons you must never joke with your study of the word of God is that you cannot please God without faith (), and you cannot have faith unless you soak yourself in God’s word (). This is why, when I was a younger Christian, it was common practice for believers to spend quality time studying the Bible during the day and then go to bed listening to the Scriptures being read on tape.
In addition to growing your faith and pleasing God, another benefit of filling your heart with the word of God is that sinful addictions will not have any room in your life. Of course, anyone struggling with any sinful addiction should see a Christian counsellor; however, such a fellow must also ensure that he or she studies, confesses, and meditates on the word of God diligently day and night. The more the fellow’s heart is filled with God’s word, the stronger his or her faith to overcome the addiction becomes. A person cannot be an addict of God’s word and be addicted to porn, alcohol, hard drugs and the like at the same time. The entrance of God’s words gives light (), and light drives away darkness, not the other way round. No addiction can withstand the word of God.
In today’s memory verse, Jesus said that if you have faith, you will command mountains to move, and they will. Today’s Bible reading also says that even if your faith is as little as a mustard seed, you will be able to move mountains. Beloved, are there mountains before you? Grow your faith by filling your heart with the word of God, and command them to get out of your way in Jesus’ name, and they will obey you.
