Since the beginning of creation, God has dealt with mankind in different dispensations. The dispensation of the Old Testament was marked by the manifestation of God the Father. When Jesus returns to the earth for the millennial reign with His saints (), that will be God the Son’s dispensation. Between Jesus’ ascension to heaven after His resurrection from the dead and His return to the earth, however, is the dispensation of God the Holy Spirit. That is the dispensation we are in now.
People who want to succeed in their walk with God during this dispensation need to know the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not a mere influence or force; He is a divine Person (). He is the promised Comforter who was sent to dwell with us and in us forever (). He brings peace to troubled hearts in a way that human consolation cannot. When He comforts us, sorrow gives way to joy, and despair turns into praise. Beyond comforting, the Holy Spirit also instructs and enlightens. He opens our eyes to the mysteries of God’s word and reminds us of divine truths. He also reveals the future to believers, unveiling God’s agenda to those who walk closely with Him. A believer who fellowships daily with the Holy Spirit will have fewer surprises because the Holy Spirit will reveal many things to him or her ahead of time.
The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus in every sphere, as today’s Bible reading reveals. When the name of Jesus is proclaimed, it is the Holy Spirit who enforces heaven’s authority on earth. Through Him, the sick recover, the oppressed are delivered, and the dead are raised to life. Every genuine miracle is a testimony of His presence.
From the moment you surrender to Jesus, the Holy Spirit seals you as God’s own (). This divine mark sets you apart and renders satan powerless over your life. As you yield to the Holy Spirit’s leading, all the various expressions of the fruit of the Spirit listed in will become evident in your life. These are the unmistakable proofs that you belong to Jesus ().
Beloved, the Holy Spirit is not just a gift; He is God’s presence within you. You must cherish Him, listen to Him, and let Him lead you daily. It is those who are led by the Holy Spirit that are truly sons of God ().
