Today’s Bible reading tells us that Jesus came to the world for one primary reason – to reconcile man to God. Sin had separated humanity from its Creator, and only the spotless Lamb of God could bridge that gap. The Bible says, “…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” ().
Through the blood of Jesus, every sin can be washed away. No matter how deep you may have gone in wrongdoing, the moment you genuinely confess and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, His mercy flows freely to cleanse you. says that “if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” The forgiveness of God is not partial; it is total. However, after you have been forgiven, the devil will often try to remind you of your past. He will continually whisper accusations to make you feel unworthy. When that happens, remind him that God has forgiven you, and you are now a new creature; therefore, everything in your life has become new.
In today’s memory verse, the Bible says that the Lord is faithful to forgive our sins if we confess them. If you are a new creature in Christ, it means that your old nature no longer exists. The moment you encountered Jesus, He gave you a new life (). Therefore, do not let guilt or even the devil himself imprison you again. When God forgives, He also chooses not to remember (). However, to remain free, you must turn your back on sin completely. In , the Bible says, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Confession without repentance is self-deception.
To forsake sin means cutting off every connection with your old sinful ways. The friends, habits, or influences that may have led you astray in the past must be cut off. You must also delete any contact or avoid any environment that might lure you back into sin, and replace them with the things that glorify God. Until you let go of the past, you cannot fully step into the glorious future God has for you.
Beloved, Jesus has paid the full price for your redemption. Confess your sins, forsake them, and walk in the freedom He purchased with His blood.
